There are a lot of experience that you go through whenever you are expecting your first child, and many parents don't know what to expect from their very first pregnancy, and my wife and I were in the same exact boat. There are of course a lot of exciting feelings that go along with finding out that you are expecting a child, and this was no different for my wife and me.
Just about everything you go through whenever you have your first child, is always a learning experience for both of you, and there were many things that we were not prepared for. The first couple of months was definitely an exciting time as we revealed the pregnancy to friends and family, who were of course extremely excited for us. We found out that my wife was expecting in early May, and we discuss a number of things, including baby names, and some of the ways we wanted to raise our child.
However, none of it seemed real to me during this stretch of time, as my wife was not showing, and there was really no telltale sign that she was pregnant, except for a + on a strip of paper. All of that changed in July whenever my wife was scheduled to have her first ultrasound, and I still remember how nervous I felt that morning as we were getting ready to go for her appointment. This was going to be the first time that I was going to see my baby, and I have to say that I had no idea what to expect. When we got to the office, the woman took my wife into the back and I had to sit in the waiting room for about 30 minutes or more. I was literally tapping my foot the entire time while I was waiting, and I could barely focus on the article that I was reading.
Whenever the woman finally came to get me, I was brought into an extremely dark room where my wife was attached to the ultrasound machine. The technician then proceeded to show me the parts of my baby, and I could make out her limbs and even where her head was. Everything became extremely surreal as I realized that this was my baby, one that I was soon going to be responsible for. I can definitely tell you it is quite an overpowering feeling to see what your baby looks like for the very first time, even if it is difficult to make out exactly what is what. Any guy who is expecting a baby, will probably go through these same feelings as well, and it is a moment that you will never forget for the rest of your life.
